A careful study of the score cards opposite might lead you to believe that Horningsham scored more runs than the Bath Arms. However, by common agreement, the score cards are wrong, and this game was won by the Bath Arms.
So Christoph finally had the pleasure of defeating us, and we are of course delighted for him, as well as grateful for the magnificent entertainment afterwards at the pub.
Of the game itself, your correspondent remembers little other than being well and truly undone by Angus Hilleary's bowling, which was quite unplayable. This raises the important question, why doesn't Angus bowl this well when playing for us?
It was very good to have Stuart Hyde back in our team, and he demonstrated how much we have missed him by top scoring with 26 retired. Rick Gunning followed up his fine innings against us for Hazelbuy Bryan with a good knock for us. The scorer noted only that he was out to the bowling of Someone Else.
In response, the Bath Arms got off to an excellent start, assisted by an outrageously good ringer from Warminster. They were nearly half way to our total before the first wicket fell and from then on were always ahead of the game. Whatever the scorecard says.
